Hershey’s Chocolate Pretzel Bars Take on Mister Salty

Uh-oh, Hershey’s is moving in on Salty’s turf. How does it stack up?

I found a box of the new Hershey’s 100 Calorie Pretzel Bars at a Target in Dallas, Texas over the July 4 weekend. I was greatly disappointed. Here’s how the two fare head to head:

  • Portion Size: There are two chocolate covered pretzels in the Hershey’s packs, compared to about 10 in Mister Salty.
  • Overall Flavor: The Hershey’s snacks are more richly covered in chocolate but without adding more rich flavor; Mister Salty’s chocolate is more than adequate.
  • Saltiness: Mister Salty wins by a salt mine here. The Salty snack packs don’t overdo it – they have the right amount, while Hershey’s tastes far sweeter than saltier.
  • Nutrition: Hershey’s has more fat (4.5g to 3.5g for Salty), saturated fat (2.5g vs 2g)  and sugar (10g vs 7g) and a bit less protein, while Salty only comes out worse, fittingly, in salt (160mg in Salty vs 110 in Hershey).
